Major Aleksander Tarnawski passed away (1921-2022)

It is with great sorrow that we inform that the last “Cichociemny” Paratrooper of the Home Army Major Aleksander TARNAWSKI “Upłaz” passed away on 4 March 2022 at the age of 101. Born in 1921, he had been trained in diversion and served as an armour soldier. He took the Home Army oath on 23.09.1943 and was dropped into occupied Poland on the night of 16.04.1944. Having made a successful landing, he was assigned to the Nowogródek Home Army District as officer with the 3rd Company, 7th Battalion, 77th Infantry Regiment of the Home Army. The late Major Aleksander TARNAWSKI was awarded four times the Cross of Valour for his courageous and faithful service to independent and sovereign Poland.
